Urology CORE Summer Research Program

The Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Urology CORE (Creating Opportunities for Research Engagement) Medical Student Summer Research Program provides an opportunity for students from medical schools without a home Urology program or access to Urology research to work closely with faculty mentors in the Department of Urology on laboratory-based and/or clinical research projects in oncology and benign urology. One (1) medical student will be selected for the summer research experience.

The selected student will be paired with a faculty member and will work with them throughout the summer on project(s) within the mentor’s ongoing research portfolio. Students participating in the program will gain valuable experience in data collection, IRB development, manuscript writing and presentation skills, including a presentation of the student’s project as part of WCM Medical Student Research Day. Additionally, the student researcher will be fully integrated into departmental academic conferences and educational programming, as well as a lecture series for summer researchers offered by WCM’s Clinical & Translational Science Center. The research experience will be complemented by seminars in clinical and translational research.

The Urology CORE Program will provide the selected student with the opportunity to obtain invaluable research experience and establish a track record of academic productivity to support the competitiveness of their application for urology residency.

Eligibility and Application

Applicants must be a medical student entering their second or third year of medical school. For students entering their third year of medical school, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure the proposed research program duration aligns with their medical school schedule. The program will be held between May and August for a consecutive 8-week period to be determined based on the student’s academic calendar. Applicants may be from US or international medical schools. Applicants should be able to write in English at an academic level.
